Serra is a recipient of the Hawthornden Literary Fellowship. Her first novel was a semi-finalist for the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Award given by the Faulkner Society in New Orleans, LA.
On assignment, Serra has written ten TV films, numerous episodes, including two years on staff for NBC. She has sold two original feature films, completed two more on assignment, and optioned two others. She has been hired as a script doctor for production polishes on several films.
Serra has taught writing at the University of California, San Diego, Wofford College, and at writers’ conferences nationwide.
For the stage: NO ONE WE KNOW a controversial family drama and finalist for the Henley Rose Award and the Playwrights First Award; also ECHOES: Powerful Men & False Reports a One-Act true story political drama, which took Third Place in The Little Theatre of Alexandria national competition for 2019.
Serra’s book 2 BROADS ABROAD: Moms Fly the Coop, a humorous travel memoir written with her sister Nancy Serra Greene, was published in 2015 by Library Tales Publishing in NYC. That book has been adapted into a the stage play NO MORE SMALL TALK.
